i've tried both os's solutions (project requirements) and here are my not(ic)es:

1. linux (unix) solution based on xvfb is perfect. it just works :) i've tested it on ubuntu and hp-ux.

2. windows solution based on psexec is tricky enough. i'm working with xp and sometimes experienced situations when psexec hangs and doesn't respond, so i was forced to kill it from taskman. there are no clear conditions for psexec hanging. also, as a minor issue - there is no console output, at least i was unable to get it. so it is not clear even where application hung.

going to check other solutions. have heard something about runprocess.

So what you need is not really "headless" mode, but "simulated head" mode :)
